Virutal Issue on Electoral Systems

Edited by Sean Carey

The study of electoral systems has grown over the past 20 years from a relatively under-researched area of politics to a substantial and increasingly sophisticated subject for research. The growth in electoral system research has emerged in tandem with the spread of democratisation, which has also made this research important as emerging democracies weigh up the options in deciding which electoral system to adopt. In this Virtual Issue of the journal we bring together material published on electoral systems in Political Studies in recent years. The papers published offer a considerable body of material on the emergence and impact of electoral systems as well as establishing the framework for how we study them. The articles here make a significant contribution to our understanding of electoral systems.
