Virtual Issue on Social Capital

Edited by Martin Smith.

'Social Capital' has become one of the most widely used concepts in political science and is the subject of considerable debate. A growing accumulation of empirical material has tested the theory in a number of scenarios. In this Virtual Issue of the journal we bring together material published on social capital in Political Studies since 2000. The papers published offer a rich seam of empirical and conceptual material on the nature of social capital. Moreover, they provide a considerable body of material on the nature and impact of social capital at local, national and regional levels, and hence they allow for a comparative evaluation of the ways in which social capital affects both political behaviour and economic performance. The articles published here make a significant contribution to the debate on Social Capital.
